What is the Zebra Ball?

The Zebra Ball is a celebration on Friday evening of our community with music, food, and cash bar. All are welcome to this family friendly event. This is a chance to show your zebra stripes by wearing black and white. This year’s entertainment includes Noah Baerman and ensemble, as well as some surprises.

What is the appropriate dress for the conference?

Dress at the conference should be comfortable! We are there to learn and to do so, you need to be in comfortable attire with any accessories, including needed cushions and the like, that enable you to sit and listen to our speakers. Our night to shine is the Zebra Ball. EDSers love a chance to dazzle—and the Zebra Ball is a perfect time to show our stripes by dressing up in black and white.

Remember that many attendees have allergies and other sensitivities so please leave fragrances behind.

ADA

In compliance with ADA regulations, The Ehlers-Danlos Society will take all reasonable steps to ensure that registered attendees are given equal and reasonable opportunity to participate in the program offered by The Ehlers-Danlos Society. Junior Zebras schedule: Junior Zebras (ages 5–15) are with parents for the Welcome Reception, breaks, and lunches. Junior Zebra activities are scheduled during other times. Besides the joy of meeting and interacting with each other, the Junior Zebras at the conference will experience a number of exceptional speakers, as well as some fun activities—and a chance to talk to each other about everything! Please note there will be a waiver of liability each parent or guardian and Junior Zebra is required to read and sign onsite.

Note: Conference badges must worn for all events and meal tickets presented at the door. If you wish to purchase additional meal tickets, you may do so on-site.

Childcare: There will be no childcare provided by The Ehlers-Danlos Society. If you bring children not registered to participate in the program, please plan accordingly. The days will be long and demanding for everyone. All participants 5 and over must register and have a badge to gain access to the Junior Zebra speakers, activities, and food functions.

Photography and Videography Policy: By attending the 2018 Ehlers-Danlos Society Global Learning Conference, you acknowledge that photos and/or videos may be taken of you by our conference staff and/or photographers at any time. Furthermore, you grant The Ehlers-Danlos Society permission to use photographs and/or video of your likeness in any type of media, including website and print publications, without compensation or reward.

Will there be recordings or transcripts available for those not able to attend the conference?

Some of our speakers and presenters may offer research information that is not yet published, and requested we not allow recording of certain sessions. The Society respects the wishes of our speakers and can only offer information to non-attendees if the speakers approve. Most sessions will be recorded for later release on our YouTube channel (http://bit.ly/EDSocietyYouTube), and presentations will be added to our web site after the conference.

Conference App

We are anticipating having a conference app available to allow easy access to scheduling, presentations, and updates. As soon as possible, the link will be available here.

Did you know medical conferences may be tax deductible?

According to the Internal Revenue Service’s website at http://www.irs.gov/publications/p502/ar02.html, “you can include in medical expenses amounts paid for admission and transportation to a medical conference if the medical conference concerns the chronic illness of yourself, your spouse, or your dependent. The costs of the medical conference must be primarily for and necessary to the medical care of you, your spouse, or your dependent. The majority of the time spent at the conference must be spent attending sessions on medical information.”

Scholarships

A limited number of scholarships were available; the application period has closed. Scholarships for the Global Learning Conference cover the registration fees, but do not cover travel, accommodations, or the Zebra Ball.
