The 2022 International Scientific Symposium
Thank you for an incredible #ISS2022! We were delighted to welcome clinicians and basic and clinical researchers from around the world to Rome, Italy, for the triennial International Scientific Symposium: a four-day, state-of-the-art meeting in which new research on clinical advances and the molecular and pathogenic mechanisms underlying EDS and related syndromes were discussed.
Due to the pandemic, the International Scientific Symposium had been delayed from 2020, but now that travel restrictions have eased, we were so happy that we could join together in person again. The International Consortium on EDS and HSD brought together leading experts, clinicians, and scientists in the field of EDS and HSD for a high-quality, scientific program with a focus on Translational Medicine in EDS and HSD – from Basic Science to Community.
Live simultaneous translations allowed participants to listen to the talks in Italian, French, and Spanish.
Throughout the conference, we were joined by attendees in 42 countries around the world: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Latvia, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa, the Netherlands, Turkey, Venezuela, United Kingdom, United States Minor Outlying Islands and the United States of America – 56% of you are first time attendees to an EDS Society conference.
We were very proud to be joined by our incredible partner sponsors for this event, Partner Sponsors, Aytu BioPharma, and Supporting Sponsors DM Orthotics, Lipedema Foundation, and Body Braid. Scroll the #ISS2022 gallery to see our favorite pictures from the event!

“The breadth of knowledge of the speakers was incredible.”
“They discussed real patients and had the real patients speak up as well”
“Recognition of the experiences we have when accessing healthcare was so impactful”
“The interdisciplinary participation was the best part of this event for me: researchers + clinicians+ PTs/rehab + mental health professionals + patients ”
"I love the Whova app. This is by far the best virtual event app that I have encountered. It makes me truly feel like a participant from afar. These Ehlers-Danlos Society events have greatly alleviated the feeling of being alone in this fight. It took 3 years to get our daughter diagnosed (I know, that is actually fairly short for EDS). Once diagnosed - we still had a long wait for any treatment. Attending these conferences has helped to bridge the gap and provide hope.”
“Amazing subject matter experts, researchers, medical professionals sharing their discoveries and experience, patients sharing their experience, interactions with other conference attendees, access to papers and research studies, learning who the leaders are in EDS research and treatment - networking. I am just getting started with my education about EDS and this conference and the Arizona conference have been GOLD! THANK YOU!"
“The best part of this event was the unity and support”
“I enjoyed the ability to interact with people from all over the globe”
“Amazed by the amount of international researchers. I came out of the event with a better understanding of the disease and with lots of hope.”
“Listening to others who have similar problems and how they cope is invaluable. All the talks were so informative and helpful”
