Cecilia Giunta, PhD

Dr. Giunta is a molecular geneticist and established scientist working in the field of connective tissue disorders (CTD) since 1995. She started as a postdoctoral fellow and later worked as senior scientist in the group of Prof. Steinmann at the Kinderspital, receiving financial support from 1995 to 2008 from the Swiss National Foundation. Dr. Giunta’s clinical-oriented research has focused on the characterization of genetic and molecular aspects of EDS and other CTD. Dr. Giunta elucidated the molecular basis of four new forms of CTD and contributed to the characterization of additional four new forms of CTD in recent years. In addition, she has contributed to the development of comprehensive diagnostic procedures combining specific biochemical and molecular genetic tools for the diagnosis of several types of the EDS.
