About these Clinics/Practices
We have a cash-only practice due to spending all day with new patients in an effort to fully characterize the extent of chronic complex, multisystem illness. We use the 2017 International criteria to make the diagnosis of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) if it is not already diagnosed, offer genetic testing if desired and work to diagnose and identify comorbidties that may be present, including dysautonomia (performing in office stand testing), mast cell activation syndrome, and autoimmune disease as well as structural issues such as tethered cord syndrome, median accurate ligament syndrome, pelvic venous disease, Chiari I malformation, cranio-cervical instability, Eagle syndrome, and cerebral spinal fluid leaks. At the initial all-day visit, our goal is to review medical history and records and make a preliminary diagnostic and therapeutic plan which is then “fine-tuned” at the Post Consultation visit (most often a few months later), reviewing laboratory and other testing ordered and response to initially recommended therapeutic trials. Our state licensing requirements require all initial visits to be in person, which is also required to adequately evaluate for possible EDS, but subsequent visits may be by telemedicine if desired.
Dr. Schofield did her Internal Medicine training at Johns Hopkins University and subsequently spent two years (2015 and 2016) at the University of Colorado working with various specialists, including rheumatologists, a thrombosis specialist (due to her interest in antiphospholipid syndrome), neuroimmunologists, other subspecialists working with autoimmune diseases such as celiac disease, and geneticists, and she traveled to work with specialists in MCAS and dysautonomia. During this time, she ran a clinic specializing in dysautonomia.
She is a founding member of the MASTerMinds physician Listserv which has been instrumental in providing ongoing education to providers of all specialties managing patients with these complex disorders.
