The EDS ECHO Nurses program is for practicing community and hospital-based nurses with an interest in learning more about the management of EDS and HSD.
EDS ECHO is a collection of virtual learning programs for healthcare professionals across all disciplines who want to improve their ability to care for people with Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS), hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD), and associated symptoms and conditions.
Project ECHO® addresses population health in a scalable way — moving knowledge instead of patients via telementoring and collaborative care. The heart of the ECHO model™ is its hub-and-spoke knowledge-sharing networks, led by expert specialist teams. The ECHO model is not “telemedicine” where specialists assume the care of the patient; it is a guided model aimed at practice improvement, in which providers retain responsibility for patients, and gain increasing independence as skills, confidence, and self-efficacy grow.
The Ehlers-Danlos Society is launching an ECHO program for nurses practicing in community and hospital-based settings.
The program will run on Thursdays at 12 noon Eastern Time (USA).
Each session will be 90 minutes duration, and include a combination of expert speaker discussion, cases from participants, and open discussion of practical issues. Our EDS ECHO programs receive CME/CPD accreditation through the University of New Mexico, USA, the academic base of Project ECHO®.
Areas for discussion will include:
- Features of EDS/HSD
- Pain management
- Surgical care (pre- and post-op)
- Skin/wound care
- Vascular issues—IVs/lines/ports
- Medication management
- Braces, Splints, Orthotics
- Dysautonomia (POTS)
