The Ehlers-Danlos Society 2020 Research Grant Program

The Ehlers-Danlos Society is pleased to share with you our Research Grant program for 2020. We will announce each grant round over the course of the year but have summarised below the opening dates for your information. Further details will be provided with the online application process with each respective round.

We aspire to offer grants annually, with calls for clinical research proposals early in the year and for basic science later in the year. We also offer grants of varying value to reflect the different nature of researcher requirements, including microgrants.

Examples of our recent funding can be seen here

Our Research Priorities page can be found here, and

The announcement of each award round will be found here.

The Spring 2020 Microgrants. The Society aims to award around 9 grants of up to $5000 each in the Spring Microgrant Round. Applicants should review the information on the grant announcement but typically, though not exclusively, these awards are given to assist researchers undertaking small study hypothesis testing, activities such as surveys, or collation and analysis of existing data, for example, in the areas of Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD). The application process will be a short, structured online form.

Online application for the Spring Microgrant round will open on February 5, 2020, and close on June 30, 2020.

Clinical Research Major Grants. The Clinical Research round will award grants ranging between $50,000 to $150,000 from a total fund of $400,000. These grants aim to support studies likely to require 1-2 years to complete and to cover the costs for researchers and study equipment. All areas of health and social care, and education applicable to our research priorities that have a direct impact on care in the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) will be considered.

Online application for the Clinical Research grant round will open on March 9, 2020, and close on June 30, 2020.

Basic Science Research Major Grants. The Basic Science Research round will award grants ranging between $50,000 to $150,000 from a total fund of $400,000. These grants aim to support studies likely to require 1-2 years to complete and to cover the costs for researchers and study equipment. All areas of the basic sciences applicable to our research priorities that have the potential to be translational in informing better care for people with EDS or HSD will be considered.

Online applications for the Basic Science Research grants round will open on November 30, 2020, and will close on February 28, 2021.

Fall/Autumn 2020 Microgrants. The Society aims to award a further 9 grants of up to $5000 each in the Fall/Autumn Microgrant Round.

Online applications for the Fall/Autumn Microgrant round will open on November 30, 2020, and will close on February 28, 2021.

In addition, the Ehlers-Danlos Society will shortly announce its 2020 Travel Grants, aimed at supporting travel and conference registration costs for researchers and educationalists presenting their work on EDS or HSD.

We are delighted to be able to share these opportunities with you and look forward to receiving applications from researchers across the breadth of the health and social care issues that affect our community.
