
The Ehlers-Danlos Society is delighted to invite applications for its 2024-2025 medical student school fee scholarship. The scholarship has been made possible by a generous donation of $20,000. The scholarship is a one-time award towards medical school fees and may be given to one or more people, with the value divided between successful applicants.
To be eligible you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or U.S. permanent resident (holders of a Permanent Resident Card); an individual granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program; an Indigenous person exercising rights associated with the Jay Treaty of 1794; an individual granted U.S. Temporary Protected Status; a U.S. asylee; or a U.S. refugee, and regardless of race, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation.
- Be a person with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome or hypermobility spectrum disorder or joint hypermobility syndrome.
- Be a medical student currently enrolled in a U.S. School of Medicine – this may be in any student year starting Summer/Fall 2024.
- Complete the application process in full, which includes information about you, your condition, your medical school, and a personal statement.
- Not have received this scholarship in any previous year.
In addition to the scholarship, the successful candidate(s) will be offered a place in the EDS ECHO Healthcare Student Program, 2025. This unique program is supported by a further generous grant and will be available to selected participants for free. It will provide access to all the EDS ECHO learning programs and Ehlers-Danlos Society conferences and public events over 2025, and dedicated teaching and mentoring sessions throughout the year (also remaining available for the rest of the year to those who may have finished their final year in the summer of 2025). Terms and Conditions
- Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria and be able to provide proof of status following successful application. Receipt of an award is conditioned upon awardees providing satisfactory documentation. All documentation provided is held safely and in compliance with The Ehlers-Danlos Society (The Society) privacy policy.
- The Society can only accept fully completed applications through the application process provided. The Society will not consider requests solicited in any other way or after the closing date.
- Applications for a scholarship are competitive and will be assessed by a committee established by the Society. The decision of the committee is final and not subject to challenge.
- The Society reserves the right to offer none, one or more scholarships up to a combined total value of $20,000.
- The scholarship(s) will be a one-off, non-recurring award in the student’s current year of Summer/Fall 2024 to Summer/Fall 2025.
- The award may only be used for the purpose of supporting school fees. Arrangements will be made for awards to be transferred directly from the Society to the medical school of the successful applicant. Funds cannot be transferred to personal/private bank accounts.
How to Apply
Applications will be accepted through October 25, 2024, at 5:00pm Eastern Time (US & Canada). The award committee will review applications and you will be notified directly of acceptance by email the week commencing November 11, 2024. If you are unable to accept the scholarship, we ask that you inform the Society as soon as possible (by email to [email protected]), to allow someone else to benefit from the scholarship. Your scholarship cannot be used by anyone else.
Please fill out all parts of this form. Information you provide will be used only by The Ehlers-Danlos Society for the purposes of determining scholarship awards, and will be maintained for five years.
