Dr. Alasdair Patrick is a kiwi trained Gastroenterologist with extensive overseas experience who returned to NZ from the UK and Singapore to Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB) in 2007. In 2009 he started the MacMurray Centre for digestive diseases. This has grown to be the largest and only comprehensive endoscopy and digestive disease service in Auckland. MacMurray opened a new facility in 2020 and continues to develop new services not available elsewhere with its unique collaborative approach.
Based on this successful model he led the team to open the Cambridge Specialist and Endoscopy Centre in 2020 and in 2023 will open another centre in Tauranga. In 2020 he introduced Stretta and Restech to NZ. In 2019 he invented FastFx, a weight management meal replacement that is growing rapidly. His major areas of interest are functional gastrointestinal diseases such as IBS, reflux disease, interventional endoscopy, endoscopic weight loss procedures and colorectal cancer. He has extensive experience in new technologies that are changing the face of gastroenterology having been formally trained in CT colonography, endoscopic ultrasound, BRAVO pH capsule, pH/ impedance testing, manometry, food intolerance testing, capsule endoscopy, Stretta, and gastric balloons.
Dr. Patrick loves pushing the boundaries in research, publications and improving patient care. In a recent national audit, he performed the most endoscopies in NZ. Current and former positions include Dir. MacMurray, Dir. Cambridge Specialists, Dir. Insight Medical, Dir. HealthFx, Head of Gastroenterology CMDHB, Head of Bowel Screening CMDHB, and Dir. of Physician Training CMDHB.
