DRA. Joanna Delgado Falcón Cooper
I am a medical geneticist and proud zebra. Since I was first diagnosed with hypermobile EDS in 2018, I have been passionately dedicated to learning to take care of myself and help others deal with the clinical and emotional aspects of EDS and connective tissue disorders. Through my experience, both as a physician and a patient, I have seen the importance of making a difference through empathy and compassion. I am a certified grief counselor by the Instituto Mexicano de Tanatología A.C and have postgraduate training in Logotherapy from the Mexican Society for Existential Analysis and Logotherapy. I am currently finishing my training as a biodynamic corporal psychotherapist in the Center for Corporal Biodynamic Psychotherapy, Mexico.
I received my medical degree at the Anahuac University in 1995 and specialized in Medical Genetics in the National Institute of Pediatrics in Mexico City, I am certified by the Mexican Genetics Board and a member of the Mexican Human Genetics Association (AMGH) since 2001. From 2019-2021 I completed an online Master´s Degree in Antiaging and Longevity Medicine by the University of Barcelona.
I was responsible for starting the genetics department in the Telethon Pediatric Rehabilitation Center (CRIT Occidente) and private practice in the Hospital Angeles del Carmen in Guadalajara, Jalisco. (2003-2006).
In 2006 I started work as a volunteer and virtual medical consultant for Infogen A.C, (www.infogen.org.mx), a non-profit organization dedicated to help spanish speaking pregnant women around the world in the prevention of birth defects. I have also been volunteering with VIFAC A.C, (www.vifac.org ) a non-profit organization dedicated to help pregnant women in vulnerable situations, as a genetics counselor since 2010.
In 2008 I worked in Diagen, a private genetics laboratory, under the guidance of Dra. Patricia Grether and the ABC Hospital in Mexico City, in the area of Prenatal Diagnosis.
In 2019 my partners and I opened a Genetics Laboratory named AKRIVIA, which specializes in cytogenomic and molecular genetic tests mainly in the areas of preimplantacion, prenatal and cancer genetics as well as telomere length testing.
My private practice is centered mainly in helping diagnose patients with EDS and HSD and improve their quality of life.
Soy medico genetista y orgullosa cebra. Desde que fui diagnosticada con el S. de Ehlers Danlos hipermóvil por primera vez en el 2018, me he dedicado apasionadamente a aprender a cuidarme y ayudar a otros a lidiar con los aspectos clínicos y emocionales del SED y trastornos del tejido conectivo. A través de mi experiencia, tanto como médico y paciente, he visto la importancia de marcar la diferencia a través de la empatía y la compasión. Soy tanatóloga certificada por el Instituto Mexicano de Tanatología A.C, tengo un Diplomado en Logoterapia por la Sociedad Mexicana de Análisis Existencial y Logoterapia y actualmente estoy terminando mi certificación como Psicoterapéuta Corporal Biodinámica en el Centro de Psicoterapia Corporal Biodinámica México.
Me recibí como Médica Cirujana por la Universidad Anahuac en 1995 y me especialicé en Génética Médica en el Insituto Nacional de Pediatría en la ciudad de México. Estoy certificada por el Consejo Mexicano de Genética y soy miembro de la Asociación Mexicana de Genética desde el 2001 (AMGH). Del 2019-2021 realicé una Master en línea en Medicina Antievejecimiento y Longevidad por la Universidad de Barcelona.
Fui responsable de crear el departamento de Genética del centro de Rehabilitación Infantil Teletón (CRIT) occidente, así como la práctica privada en el Hospital Angeles Del Carmen en Guadalajara, Jalisco. (2003-2006).
En el 2006 inicié como voluntaria y consultora médica para el consultorio virtual de Infogen A.C (www.infogen.org.mx), una organización sin fines de lucro, dedicada a la atención de mujeres hispanohablantes de todo el mundo para la prevención de defectos al nacimiento. También he sido voluntaria en VIFAC A.C, asociación sin fines de lucro dedicada a la atención de mujeres embarazadas en situción vulnerable, como asesora en el área de genética desde el 2010.
En 2008 trabajé en el laboratorio Diagen y en el Centro Médico ABC, bajo la turoría de la Dra. Patricia Grether, en el área de diagnóstico prenatal.
En 2019 mis socios y yo abrimos el Laboratorio AKRIVIA, especializado en pruebas de citogenómica y biología molecular, principalmente enfocado en la areas de genética preimplantacion, prenatal y cáncer, así como en pruebas especializadas de longitud telomérica.
Mi práctica privada se centra principalmente en ayudar a diagnosticar pacientes con SED y TEH para mejorar su calidad de vida en todos los sentidos.
