Listening Labs: Model of Care

Share your experience. Help shape the future of care.

We are inviting people with an interest in Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) to take part in a series of Listening Labs: structured, online sessions designed to hear directly from those navigating care today.

These sessions are part of the development of the new Model of Care for EDS and HSD. This work focuses on how care should function in real healthcare systems, including earlier recognition, coordinated referrals, ongoing support, and better-connected care over time.

The Listening Labs are a core part of ensuring this new Model of Care is informed by lived experience alongside clinical expertise and research evidence.

Why take part?

Improving diagnosis and care requires more than research and clinical expertise. It also requires understanding what people are experiencing in real-world healthcare systems.

Listening Labs are an opportunity to:

  • Share your experiences of seeking care, diagnosis, and support
  • Highlight what is working, and what is not
  • Help identify where change is most urgently needed
  • Contribute to shaping how care should work in practice

Your insights will help inform how the new Model of Care is developed, ensuring it reflects both clinical and health systems evidence and lived experience.

What will the sessions cover?

Each Listening Lab will focus on experiences within primary care, including:

  • Recognition of symptoms and concerns
  • Access to diagnosis and assessment pathways
  • Coordination of referrals to specialists and services
  • Ongoing care, follow-up, and support
  • Managing daily life and quality of life needs

Participants will be invited to share their perspectives in a structured, facilitated discussion.

Who can attend?

This first phase is focused on people currently living in:

  • United Kingdom
  • United States
  • Canada

This allows us to gather detailed regional insights that can inform how the Model of Care is developed and adapted across different healthcare systems.

We recognize that experiences from all regions are important. Opportunities to contribute from additional regions will follow as this work develops.

Participants must be 18 or over to register independently. Those under 18 may attend with a parent, carer, or guardian.

About the Model of Care Collaboration

The Listening Labs are part of a broader research collaboration to develop a new and improved Model of Care for EDS and HSD. This research program is focused on improving how healthcare systems respond to patient needs. It is not a referral program and does not direct individuals to any specific hospital or provider.

The aim is to support better systems of care in the future. Learn more about the Model of Care program here.

Register Early

Registration will remain open until the day of each live webinar. However, we encourage you to register as early as possible.

Early registration gives our team time to review the experiences, priorities, and questions shared through the registration form so they can help shape the session content and discussion.

Responses received closer to the event may not be able to be integrated into the live session itself, though they will still be included in the wider insights and data used to inform the Model of Care collaboration.
