World Oral Health Day

March 20th is World Oral Health Day! Let’s talk about periodontal Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS).

Collagen defects can affect oral health by impacting vascularity, bone, teeth, gum tissue, and nerve tissue. Tissue fragility may also affect the tendons and ligaments that support the mouth and jaw, influencing overall dental health.

Dental issues can occur in all types of EDS. However, oral and gum health are defining features in pEDS. pEDS is associated with severe, early-onset gum disease, often beginning in childhood or the teen years.
